So, what to do now? Jay wasn’t quite sure. He was stood in a place where most people had already formed friendship groups. He was the new kid, coming all the way from England and he didn’t know anybody. What the hell had his parents been thinking, tossing him into a brand new school system at his age? It was so different in England. By now he would have been out of compulsory schooling, which meant all the idiots would have dropped out and he’d be with people who actually wanted to learnt and do well. No more being called a nerd, or having his stuff nicked or anything else that the bullies did to him. But no, he was still stuck with all those idiots for another two years.
Thankfully today he’d managed to get out of class promptly and as such, there were quite a few empty tables left, so Jay could just go and sit at one of them. Clutching his dinner tray, he made his way over to a table and sat down. Warily, he watched the rest of the students as the made their way into the canteen. Over his years at school he’d learnt to pick out which kids were more likely to be bullies. You could always tell. There was usually a real cocky swagger to the way they walked, like they knew they owned the place. They were generally quite big as well. At his old school, a lot of the bullies had been on the rugby team. Picking a fight with them was a very bad idea. After a while, you learnt to stay away from certain people. It was easier than trying to talk to them. In the back of his mind, Jay wondered whether anyone would approach him. He was the new kid after all. But maybe nobody would notice him. No, the tables were filling up quickly so at some point somebody would probably want to take one of the empty seats. He hoped it was somebody nice.

Move it! Outta the way, jeez! Jem hated pushing his way through people at the sorry excuse for a school. He often had to do this, yet it never got any easier. There were always mobs of students too stupid to disperse. One of these days, his life was going to depend on getting through a crowd and he wasn't going to be able to do it. Damn... I'm so dead at this rate, he thought to himself. Finally having gone through to mesh of kids, his eyes scanned the cafeteria for table he could sit at. Full...full..too obvious.. there!
It was perfect. There was a table with only one seat taken. Jezalee wouldn't find him there as quickly, if at all. It just wasn't a likely place to look for Jeremy Tornone. He usually sat in the same area with the same people. Never would he sit with ..well.. he actually had no idea who the guy was. With any luck... Jez didn't either.
He made his way to the nearly empty table, almost stumbling to the floor after tripping over his own feet. Taking a seat across from the guy who had claimed the table, he let out some deep breaths before calming down from the running for his life that he had just done.Don't look up. We don't wanna be seen. He kept his head low and facing away from the entrance to the room. He made a pathetic attempt at starting a conversation as if he had any clue who he was talking to. So how are ya? Don't think I've metcha. Nice..uuh.. food tray.
After a few moments, Jem was more casual, under the assumption that he was probably safe for the next forty minutes. He didn't know what this guy was like, nor did he really care. Anyone was better than Jezalee Cross.
