ABOUT YOU: Well, I'm 16 years old, nearly 17 and live in south west England. I enjoy horse riding and work at a local bakery.
Well, I guess I should start by introducing that. My name is Jason, but please don't call me that. Most people just call me Jay. I was born in Somerset, which is a county in England, which as you should know is in Europe. I figure I'd better spell it out, since you Americans seem to have a fairly weak grasp of geography outside of your own country. By the way, England and Wales? Two different countries, both part of the United Kingdom. Ask a Welshie where in England Wales is and they'll probably knock your head off.
Anyway, back on topic. You probably want to know a little more about me. Well, I'm 17 years old, which I guess makes me a junior. I'm not really sure though, you have a different system to what we do in England. I should be in college right now, but my parents decided to move to America for some unknown reason. You lot are probably confused, so I'll just say that your college is equivalent to our university. Our college is your last two years of high school. I'm digressing again. Lookswise, I'm fairly average. My height is 5'11" and I'm of an average weight for my height. My hair is a dark brown colour and I've got light blue eyes.
Personality wise, I'm quite a shy person. I'm also quite smart, if I do say so myself and would rather spend time reading a good book than playing sports. All of this combined led to my labelling as a nerd by some of the more unimaginative school bullies. I fully expect that label to follow me here, since I have no intention of changing my personality just to fit in with the popular crowd. The way I see it, I may well end up as their boss one day and then they'll regret picking on me. I will admit to being an easy target since I'm not the sort to fight back. I'm what people call a nice kid. I get on well with my classmates, at least the ones who aren't shoving me into a wall. So that's me in a nutshell. Anything else you want to know, come ask me yourself.
Jason pushed his way through the crowds surrounding the dance floor of Sparkles bar and nightclub. It was a bit too crowded for his liking, but it was also the only decent bar in Lipton. So when Jason wanted a drink, it was here that he had to come to. Reaching his intended destination, the bar, he sat down on one of the stools and signaled to the bartender, catching his attention. “Beer please.” Tonight he was fully intending to drink until he was too drunk to even walk home. It was one of his bad days, in his cycles of depression. There was no real reason for it, he’d just woken up feeling miserable and his mood had only gotten worse over the day. His friends knew that there was nothing they could do to pull him out of the blackness of his mood and had learnt to just leave him too it. Unfortunately, when he was like this his temper tending to be short and more than once he’d lashed out at a friend who was trying too hard to cheer him up. Sometimes he just wanted to be left in peace.
The bartender set his drink down in front of him and Jason nodded in thanks. He lifted the glass and took a long drink before putting it back down again. Absent mindedly he traced the rim of the glass with his finger, staring blindly around the nightclub at the other people. They all seemed so happy, dancing, talking, among other things without a care in the world. What he wouldn’t give to be carefree like that again. But ever since that night, ever since that fire almost two years ago he’d realised how hard the world could be and would likely never be the same again. Maybe one day he’d be able to move on but tonight wasn’t that time. Tonight his plan was to just drink until he couldn’t remember what had caused this depression that hung over him every day like a shadow.
