Jem was having an off day. It was one of those days in which his ability to pay attention enough to entertain the class was null. There was no point. With their English teacher, the class was beyond help anyway. Why did it have to be so boring? If he were teacher, he'd dance or something, while talking. Then, he'd have everyone's undivided attention. After dozing off for a good ten minutes, his eyes came back to focus enough to look around the room. Scanning for something, anything to stay awake, his eyes caught Samantha McAllister, who was clearly paying no more attention than he was.
Well, she'll work, he thought as he ripped a piece of crumbled paper out of his barely used English notebook. The whole notebook had more doodles than words that even related to English on it's pages. He naturally had no appropriate writing utensil on him with the exception of half of an orange crayon that he had kept in one of his pants' pockets and had gone through the washing machine. With the orange crayon wax, he scribbled in a legible note.
Mr. Kurland's shirt is untucked on top of his third belt buckle to the left.
If the guy wanted people to pay any attention to him, the least he could do was to make himself look presentable. Jeremy could be distracted by nearly anything, and that damn piece of shirt sticking out was driving him off the wall.
He folded the paper and wrote TO SM
[/b] on the front flap. He had established a long time ago that if he were to ever communicate with Samantha, that her nickname would be SM, instead of Sam, which was most likely what everyone else called her. . Quickly, he put the note between two of his fingers before tossing it accurately to the unsuspecting girl's desk, which was located a couple desks diagonally forward from his. He often passed notes in all his classes so he rarely got the note to the wrong person. [/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

Samantha sat in English, trying to come up with a way to lighten things up. Mr. Kurland was the most boring teacher she knew, and she found it extremely difficult to sneak in a joke or distraction. There were so many failed attempts in the past, she wasn't sure if she should try anymore, but she felt like it was her responsibility to do something, so she thought harder. There wasn't one other class that was so strict and dull, and Sammy couldn't stand the fact this guy didn't even try to make things interesting. She swore, one day she was going to become a teacher just so she could make her students lives easier. Eventually Sammy began to entertain herself by thinking of Mr. Kurland dancing, a smile broke on her lips, a smile she had to hide from her teacher or else she would be in massive trouble.
Samantha's train of thought was broke by a note that landed on her desk. She instantly knew it was from Jem, no one else put SM on there notes. And yes, she got handed notes a lot by bored students, usually because they knew she would entertain them. She read the note, positioning it under her desk so Mr. Kurland couldn't see, and let a low, quiet chuckle lose. Sammy took out a over-used pencil and began writing,
I bet you cant stand this. Imagine him dancing, and then try not to laugh
She knew she was getting her kicks at imaging him dancing, pulling a Micheal Jackson. Sammy flicked it back to Jem, smiling as it landed right in front of him. She couldn't wait for this class to be over, and started to think of a joke she could sneak in.

Success! Of course, sending the note to Samantha was a good idea. He knew he could count on a good response from her. They had known each other for a while.. since the beginning of middle school.. though they hadn't had much interaction face-to-face. It was a weird relationship; one consisting mostly of notes and glances back and forth. It was as if they knew that the other was a cool person, but they had no need for actual confrontation. This wasn't an issue yet, but it was beginning to make Jeremy curious as to how they'd get along with an actual friendship. But.. he didn't have to worry about that yet. The Kurlmister would flunk anyone given the chance, so they couldn't really get to know one another until they were out of class.
The notes would do just fine. A grin became evident on Jem's face as his message was returned to his desk. He subtly pulled it under his desk and and opened it slowly, sure not to let it make that annoyingly loud crumbling sound that paper always makes. Curling in his lips, it wa obvious that he was ready to burst out into laughter. The image of Kurland dancing was so unrealistically amusing that he couldn't contain himself. After chuckling for the slightest moment, he quickly stopped himself, receiving a glare from the teacher. Needless to say, adding 'try not to laugh' wasn't really helpful. Kurland resumed teaching after Jem replaced his grin with a serious expression. Once the attention was off him, the crayon was moving again.
I actually can't stand it.. and that image made it worse. His hips..moving to and fro..they're pushing more pieces of his shirt out. It's extremely unprofessional.
[/b] It actually did bother him greatly that the shirt was untucked. He was ready to raise his hand and bluntly point it out in front of the class. He just hadn't yet figured out if it was worth a potential detention. Jeremy noticed everything.. and it kept him from paying attention to what he was supposed to. His eyes took another glance at Sam before he inconspicuously flicked the note back to her desk.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

Samantha hid a smile behind her textbook as Mr. Kurland glared at Jeremy. She had ment to make him laugh, and felt satisfied that he had, even if Mr. Boss-Man gave him the stank-eye. She waited for the upcoming note, and when it landed in front of her book, she quickly hid it behind her. The teacher had realized the sudden movement but hadn't seen the note, and gave Sammy the same look he had given Jem.
As he turned back to the board her eyes widened and she kept her mouth in a tight line so a laugh wouldn't escape. She opened and read the note, keeping it positioned in front of her book so it looked like she was reading the lesson on the board. Sammy let a ghost of a smile play on her lips before she wrote back,
You know whats unprofessional.......That huge bald spot on the back of his head. You could land a airplane on the thing.
Samantha waited for Mr. Kurland to turn back around before she flicked the note back to Jem. She watched the paper fall to him, and her textbook accidentally fell down, causing it to produce a loud noise. The amazingly interesting English teacher jumped, causing the marker in his hand to fall. Sammy covered her mouth to hide her smile and keep her laugh in, and Mr. Kurland slapped a long ruler on her desk, causing her to straighten up. You will not interrupt my class, understand me? Her teacher said loudly. Samantha put her hand up to her forehead in a salute "Sir yes Sir!" she said, snatching her hand away from her forehead. The class erupted in laughter, and the teacher mumbled as he went to his desk.
