A New Day

[TYLER CHASE]

The school bus now this was new, when he had been in England Tyler had walked to his school because he had not lived that far away from it, so to him the school bus was just as new as the American school system with the fact the last two years would be college if he was in England, which he felt a bit annoyed about to be honest, because it now meant he had an extra two years in compulsory education, while it was a silly thing to get annoyed about it was still something he would rather not of had to go through, but ah well it could not be helped, thank to his dad making the quick decision to move here. For Tyler it had been a few days for him tog et used to the idea of the new system and all the differences between England and America, but he understood them he hoped, he still retained his Somerset accent which would obviously target him as different, and he was determined to stay what he was a nerd or from what he had heard in this school a BRAINIAC, why would he change himself just because it was a new place, even if his dad expected him to.

Tyler has been waiting at the bus stop for around half an hour now, he was not getting impatient but he was getting a bit bored standing around and waiting for the bus to turn up. He had heard his friend Jason Knight was going to the same school, he did hope he would be on this bus at some point as well, least then there was someone he knew on the bus, instead of him not knowing anyone at all.

For Tyler a benefit to being here was that he could wear the clothes he would usually wear not that he did not mind wearing a uniform he did feel a bit smarter than he already was when he did.

When The bus finally did come Tyler looked around, it was not too crowded yet which was good, he just hoped he was not going to picked on so he went straight to the back. Once there he took The Lord of The Rings the book out of his bag and began to read it while watching the door hoping that Jason would get on, as he was not on the bus at the moment.

This would be an interesting day. That was the thought running through Jay's mind as he sat at the kitchen table, slowly eating his way through a bowl of cereal. It was his first day at his new high school. It would be a lot to get used to and secretly he was worried. Back in England Jay had been an easy target for bullies, with his not so muscular physique, his bookish ways and the fact that he didn't try to fight back. Besides, all the other kids in his year would be in their third year. They'd have already formed friendships. Would there be any room for the new kid, with his funny and not very polished British accent? Or would things be the same as they were at his old school, being bullied from the outset for simply being who he was?

There was one saving grace. He'd heard from his dad that one of his friends from England had also moved out to America and was going to the same school as him. Tyler was a brainiac like Jay, so they'd have to stick together in this new and unfamiliar environment. When he glanced at the clock, Jay realised that he was in danger of running late and dumped his bowl by the sink, grabbing his school bag as he headed for the door. "Bye Mum!"

It was a fast walk that took Jay to the bus stop, and he noted with relief when he got there that kids were still getting on. He joined the back of the queue, scanning the windows for a familiar face. He continued doing this as he got on the bus, finally finding who he was looking for. A grin settled on his face as he swung down into the seat next to Tyler. "Hey. I'd heard you were going to Lincoln High. Nice to have a familiar face. How've you been?"

Tyler was reading as well as watching the door, which to be honest he found rather easy to do not that he knew why it was so easy it just was. Tyler was able to get lost in a book while being able to focus on the world around him, it was an odd thing but it did help him get out of trouble at times and know when trouble was coming, a bit like the headaches people get when a storm is coming. Instead of trouble though he was waiting for hid friend Jason, it would be nice to have someone to talk to on this bus.

At the moment Jason walked on to the bus Tyler took his book and put it into his bag zipping it up, before nodding to Jason. He grinned at him and listened to what he said before speaking himself
"Been great well, too be honest I would rather e back in England but dad found a job here so," he looked at his friend taking a chocolate bar out of his bag handing it to Jason
"What about you, you think things will be as bad here a sin England," he looked around and then whispered into Jason's ear
"Remember when we got wedgied then taped together."
